A pair of Nike Air Jordan sneakers worn by basketball player Michael Jordan during his rookie season was auctioned in Geneva on Wednesday for 138,600 francs (126,500 euros). The shoes were the main attraction of an online sneaker sale. The Gamers Only auction featured thirteen pairs of athletic shoes featuring some of the NBA's greatest players, including Scottie Pippen and Shaquille O'Neal.
The Nike Air Jordan 1s not only changed basketball shoes forever, but according to the auction house Sotheby's are also at the origin of sneaker culture. Sold on Wednesday, the pair in Chicago Bulls colors was worn by Michael Jordan during his remarkable debut season in the NBA in 1984-85.
