Sharon Stone (63) is honored for her long career. The Hollywood star will receive the Golden Icon Award at the 17th Zurich Film Festival, which takes place from September 23 to October 3, as the organizers announced on August 26. It is the highest award of the festival in Zurich.
Stone, who had her big breakthrough with the erotic thriller "Basic Instinct" in the early 1990s, has been in front of the camera since the early 80s. She will accept the award in person on September 25th.
The actress is "a true icon of the seventh art," says Christian Jungs, Artistic Director of the Zurich Film Festival, among other things. Stone is "a woman Hitchcock would have loved. She is characterized by irresistible charisma, human depth and a wide range of roles." In addition, like almost no other colleague, she is able to "captivate the audience".
The 63-year-old also fought against sexism "at a time when the film business was dominated by men" and became a role model for many women in the film industry. After the ceremony, "Casino" will be shown. Stone shone in 1995 in the crime drama by Martin Scorsese (78) alongside Robert De Niro (78) and Joe Pesci (78).
Golden Icon Award winners include Cate Blanchett (52), Michael Douglas (76), Glenn Close (74) and Arnold Schwarzenegger (74).
