Switzerland has administered 12 million Covid vaccine doses, resulting in a total of 67 percent vaccinated. The country is not at the top, but it is not left behind either: slightly behind the USA and a little behind the EU average.
The impression given is different. According to the leading media, we have far too many "dangerous" unvaccinated people.
"The situation is coming to a head in Zurich hospitals," headlines the Tages-Anzeiger, referring to a St. Gallen hospital official: "The vast majority are unvaccinated. 'The ratio is around ten to one.'"
The view follows: "These Swiss intensive care units are fully occupied". Watson, who went further than everyone else from the start, brings an SP leader:
"The obligation to vaccinate is better than a lockdown or tightening for the unvaccinated," he says. In Germany, unvaccinated people could next no longer go shopping in stores.
Unvaccinated, out. The reason given for the pressure on the group of “unreasonable” is the hospitals. These would collapse – because of the unvaccinated.
Is that really true? The numbers show otherwise.
Among the elderly and those particularly affected by Covid-19, the vaccinated in hospital care have now clearly overtaken the unvaccinated. Among the 70-year-olds and older, there are almost 6 vaccinated for every 4 unvaccinated.
The situation is different from 30 to 69. There it hits many more unvaccinated than vaccinated hard.
In total, the so-called 7-day average for Swiss hospitalizations results in a ratio of 263 unvaccinated to 158 doubly vaccinated.
In other words, around 4 out of 10 people of all ages who are badly affected have to go to the hospital despite the vaccination.
It is said that more and more vaccinated people in hospital care are mathematically logical. Statistics, Stupid: The more vaccinated, the more "vaccination breakthroughs".
Sounds good. The argument just doesn't help. All measures relating to Covid have had the hospitals as their core argument since the beginning. These must not collapse.
According to the big media, they are now at the limit. Blame is placed on the unvaccinated, even though they are in the minority among those most at risk - the elderly.
The same applies to those who died from Covid. "For a few days now, more vaccinated people have died than unvaccinated people," writes Markus Feier, a Zurich entrepreneur who has been studying the numbers since the beginning of the pandemic.
