Recently, a member of the federal corona task force stated that 2G is "an option" to fight the pandemic if the epidemiological situation worsens again in winter. 2G means that only those who have been vaccinated and have recovered are allowed to take part in normal life.

The argument goes like this: Unvaccinated people can become infected at 3G events, become seriously ill in large numbers and overload the hospitals.

On the other hand, if the unvaccinated are no longer allowed to go out, they become infected less often. Consequently, 2G is needed, the exclusion of the unvaccinated from events. This is the understandable conclusion from an epidemiological point of view.

This is exactly how you could do it - if the rules of our coexistence were in a standard work of epidemiology. It's not like that. We live in a democratic constitutional state where unvaccinated, vaccinated and epidemiologists enjoy the same rights.

The vaccinated have no privileges. Your advantage is to be protected as much as possible from becoming seriously ill with Covid. Conversely, those who are not vaccinated face a severe course of the disease, but not the loss of their rights.

That won't happen either. Nobody in Switzerland has to be afraid of a state-mandated 2G in restaurants, cinemas or elsewhere. The Federal Council made it clear that it had not even considered this measure.

On the other hand, we have to put up with the 3G certificate for the time being. It does not restrict anyone's freedom of movement and contributes to protection against infection. Unvaccinated people have to accept being tested, even if it is a nuisance to them.

Federal Council wins Covid referendum:

Recently they are supposed to shell out their test costs themselves because it is no longer reasonable to burden the community with them. That is the understandable logic of the vaccinated majority, but not the logic of the law.

I'm sticking to it: as long as testing costs more than a mask, paid tests are tantamount to an indirect obligation to vaccinate.

If vaccination is voluntary, but the state requires that those who have not been vaccinated must be tested in order to participate in normal life, then this state must also pay for these tests. We are all the state. So we all have to pay, unfortunately.

Does my stomach think that's fair? no But with my gut comes a head that strives to abide by the rules we've set for ourselves.

Do vaccination refusers behave in a lack of solidarity or even immorally? Its possible. But solidarity and morality are just as voluntary as vaccination. Nobody has to show solidarity. Just as nobody has to be polite and obliged to greet me on the street.

Would it be better if we had compulsory vaccination in Switzerland in the event of a pandemic? May be. We can adjust the rules of the game before the next pandemic. But we can't change the rules mid-game if some of the players don't want to. That's how it is in the rule of law.

Yes, this pandemic would come to an end fastest if we were all vaccinated against Covid. But that will not happen, because many people in Switzerland do not want to be vaccinated under any circumstances.

The reasons for this are diverse. Some are halfway understandable, others not at all. In the end, it doesn't matter because any reason is good enough to refuse vaccination.

One can lament or applaud: there is no legal basis for forcing anyone to be vaccinated or punishing someone for not wanting to be vaccinated. Everyone can get vaccinated, nobody has to. We should practice composure and just accept it.

What we cannot accept are collapsing hospitals. Within the law, it pays to persuade people to vaccinate who can be persuaded.

As soon as there are enough vaccinated and recovered people and the hospitals are no longer threatened with overburdening, we no longer have to protect the unvaccinated from ourselves. Not with 3G and not with 2G either.
