by Claudia Enders Has your favorite wool sweater got a stain? Not bad! We explain how you can wash wool so that everything becomes clean again.

Washing wool: tips & tricks

Wash wool: In the washing machine

Before you wash a woolen garment, always check the label! If hand washing is recommended, use the appropriate program on your washing machine. Alternatively, many machines have the "wool wash" program. The temperature must not be higher than 30 degrees - it is best to only wash the woolen items on cold wash. The spin cycle should be kept as short as possible. In general, you should only fill the drum of the washing machine a quarter full: Otherwise, the woolen items will rub against each other and become matted faster!

Washing by hand, on the other hand, is only possible with great care. The structure of the wool fiber is often stressed too much by wringing, rubbing or water that is too hot, which can quickly damage the clothing. When washing by hand, make sure that you only press the wool gently and that the water for washing and rinsing has the same temperature!

Dry wool properly

If you hang up wet woolen laundry, it can quickly get out of shape and become baggy. Therefore, it is better to pull the piece of wool into shape, then place it on a large towel and then roll it up. The water is gently squeezed out in this way. Then put the towel and clothes on a drying rack and let them dry flat.

Caution: Never dry woolen laundry over the heater or in the sun. The label also states whether it can be tumble dried.
