Nike x Supreme: The new Air Max 96 takes co-op to the next level
Nike and Supreme have been working together for 19 years. The first sneakers they designed together were unveiled in 2002. Back then, the two brands collaborated on a pair of SB Dunk Low Pros that featured an all-over elephant print originally used on the Air Jordan III. Since then, they've released star-printed dunk highs, a Flyknit Lunar 1+ and a baroque Foamposite—as well as plenty of apparel.
Now the duo are back with a pair of co-branded Air Max 96 sneakers. The design manifests a trend we've noticed for a while: see-through shoes. For example, Acne Studios released its ultra-clear trail sneakers in mid-2020, while Blondey McCoy's Adidas Superstar, launched last year, boasted a clear plastic upper in different colors. The Air Max 96 from Supreme and Nike comes with a leather upper and a translucent quarter panel that lets your socks show through. Alongside the new sneaker, the two superbrands are also releasing a pair of co-branded jacquard knit socks. The other details of the Air Max 96 are a heel overlay made of grained leather, a foam midsole with air units, a rubber outsole with inserted TPU panel, a tongue and a collar lining made of mesh, a reflective 3M binding, a Co-branded footbed, embroidered logos and reflective branding on the heel.
